Warhol spent his senior year in high school in Atlanta, which could explain much of his influences and style, with previously mentioned Artist 21 Savage also coming out of the hottest fucking city on this earth. He also recently performed at SXSW and is dropping music at a constant rate with pretty great consistency. It may be hard to find his portfolio, however, as his soundcloud was recently taken down for some reason. He’s gotten most of his producers to reupload his songs on their account, and you can generally find a copy of just about anything if you look hard enough, but I’d keep an eye out for him to reinstate his page soon.
Warhol is a great find for anyone who is into that style of music, he’s consistent, productive, and accessible. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him start making a bigger name for himself in the next year, especially if he drops another song like “Speed Racer” that has a little more popular appeal to it. It also wouldn’t surprise me to see him move down south or work more with Atlanta artists in the near future, as is pretty vocal about the fact that Atlanta as a whole has a way more friendly environment for artists and also melting your shoes to the sidewalk.

I spent a long time trying to find an equivalent to Fresco in more mainstream rappers but really struggled. He has a very unique bit about him, where he mixes autotuned and normal voice with club style beats. This isn’t really a genre bending trend at all, artists like Travis Scott and Skeezy Mars do this too – even G-eazy does this occasionally – there’s just a unique quality to Fresco that makes his sound truly his. He doesn’t have a huge portfolio yet, but everything is truly solid. His lower marks probably come in his recent mixtape, Mad World, but even those aren’t low points at all. Throughout the whole time you’ll find synth sounds and adlibs that make up radio and Houston sound now.
Fresco may have been found by a stroke of luck but him continuing to grow has been no accident. He’s an excellent young artist who has a lot of mainstream appeal. Now that he’s on the same record label as artists like Travis, Future, ATCQ, 3 Stacks and more, I expect him to pull some of the names and talent he needs to ascend to the level of Kansas City royalty.

The mantra that has followed Pell around for so long is “If you like Chance and Bino, you’ll like this guy.” To make it clear though, he doesn’t sound like either of these two, he just makes music that people who don’t normally fuck with the hip hop scene heavy can rap/sing/dance with. He’s one of the very accessible artists – he’s performed at SXSW, Lolla, Hangout, and other music festivals. I’d honestly compare him to Cudi before either of those two, and the beats he raps over are pretty similar, just less reliance on singing. If you liked Dave B, this guy will probably be up your alley as well. He’s got a real versatile voice (think a little higher pitched Curren$y, also a NOLA native) and a nice flow that makes it so he can (and does) rap over a big range of beats. Dude has all the talent and portfolio already to continue to grow.
I feel like Pell is included in every list about artists to watch, up until recently. I don’t know if he’s considered to have already made it – so far he’s the only artist on this list I’ve actually seen someone I personally know listen to – but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him grow into a bigger name ala D.R.A.M. in the next year or two. Another guy who will really benefit from the rise in the rising happier, carefree rap scene, Pell is fun to listen to and should probably find his way into a lot of y’alls summer rotation.

Mike Wing is a surprisingly fun to listen to guy for being a ‘conscious’ rapper. He’s not grating or ‘holier than thou’ like artists like Hopsin generally, he just points out real issues and talks about them in a real way. And he isn’t preaching in his videos or really trying to touch your soul like that either, it will be a comment here or there so if you don’t fuck with conscious rappers he’s probably not going to turn you off. I said earlier he’ll probably remind you the most of Mac Miller. He has the similar relaxed vibes to his music and even actually delivers his lines in similar ways a lot of the time. It’s not a sound you’d expect to come from a guy from New Hampshire, but in all honesty I don’t think any sound is one you’d expect from the area.
Chips & Salsa was a great project from Mike and a step up from Synesthesia on his part. Production has been changed to a sound that I think overall complements his style a little more, and his skits shows he’s really getting to have a little more artistic ownership over his projects. Like I said earlier, Mike has a lot of moves he needs to make if he wants to make 2017 a breakout year, but should he get his name out there, I’m sure he’d have a pretty receptive audience. I’m not sure if it’s a management/promoter thing or just the size of the market in the area, but the dude has the necessary talent and the established sound to get it done.
In my interview with Mike Wing he touched on what it's like building a rap career out of New Hampshire and what calls him to rap about what he raps about. You can read about it below.

Due to the headassery of the previously mentioned antics, you can probably guess that Jinsu has a pop sound to him; he fits in well with some of Big Sean and Drake’s more popular stuff, honestly sounding like some sort of merging of both of them. His sound has developed over the last couple of years, and he’s come into his own as an artist, being willing to experiment a little (see “Another You”) and see how things work out. It’s worked well for him – if you still haven’t checked out “Cream”, one of the first things you’ll notice is that it was produced by Jahlil Beats. He may not be at the level he talks, but he’s definitely making moves so I respect it.
Jinsu has the sound that he needs to get big, and his history would make it seem like he’s comfortable in the limelight. I don’t know his plans for 2017, and reading through his twitter to try and find out about gave me an aneurysm, but him dropping a tape or a hot single could be enough to boost this guy into national attention. I would imagine you’ll see his name again throughout the year, if not for his music, then some other celebrity drama BS.
Put On: Sheff G & 22Gz
But Sheff G and 22Gz stand out the most amongst the rest of their peers. Sheff, with his deep voice reminiscent of a Londoner and his ability to spit bars of any kind. And 22, with his immaculate flow and wordplay. Both artists are currently beefing and their two break out songs with 3-4 million views on each respectively showcase their talent. 22Gz’s Suburban song started the beef and with it he delivers puns and threats in a rapid-fire flow that blends both the styles of Meek Mill and G Herbo while bringing his own unique cadence to it.
Sheff G’s breakout song, No Suburban, has since taken on a life of its own, thanks to Sheff G's deep voice, which many have mistaken for a British accent, and natural charisma, which has made him the breakout figure in the scene.
Both are promising artists and I suggest checking them out. They put on for New York for a fact!!
